The RIAA Seeks $1.5 Million For 24 Songs By: Bruce Houghton 2010-11-05 The third time in court for Jammie Thomas-Rasset vs. the RIAA resulted in a new fine of $62,500 for each of 24 songs grabbed via Kazaa for a total... ...of $1.5 million. The large new fine far exceeds the $2,250 per song that this judge along others involved in similar cases have declared reasonable and suggesting that more would be considered "monstrous and shocking". "We are again thankful to the jury for its service in this matter and that they recognized the severity of the defendant's misconduct," crowed the RIAA. "Now with three jury decisions behind us along with a clear affirmation of Ms. Thomas-Rassets willful liability, it is our hope that she finally accepts responsibility for her actions." Thomas-Rasset promises to appeal.
