The long Thanksgiving weekend yielded plenty of visitors to MSN Shopping, as Microsoft credited better selection and tighter integration with the new Windows Live Search.

Novell Gets Patent Payoff From MicrosoftMSN picks up over 465 million global users per month, according to figures provided by Microsoft (MSFT). Enough of them stopped by MSN Shopping to give new senior VP Steve Berkowitz, Online Business Group, a nice increase in their visits.

Those visits increased 21 percent over the same period last year, the Friday after Thanksgiving through what was dubbed last year as "Cyber Monday," the Monday after Thanksgiving.

Monday was the big day for MSN Shopping, as Microsoft noted it gathered more than double the visits Black Friday did. Some attribute the busy Cyber Monday online activity to people returning to work, and promptly hitting the Internet to do some shopping along with their daily duties.

"Online shoppers are always on the lookout for the perfect product, but they also want to find that item from the widest possible selection," said Jim Barr, general manager for MSN Shopping at Microsoft. He cited the listing of some 30 million products from over 8,000 merchants as providing that selection.

MSN Shopping's integration with Live Search provides Microsoft's "Instant Answers," which displays prominent top-of-page sponsored links to products available from participating MSN Shopping sellers.

On Monday, the top searches covered a variety of products. Shoppers top five most popular searches were for Burts Bees, heart jewelry, Swarovski, Nintendo Wii, and hoodies.
